In ancient Greek philosophy, the dodecahedron symbolizes the cosmos' divine structure and harmony. As the fifth Platonic solid, it was described in Plato’s Timaeus as the shape used to “embroider the constellations on the whole heaven”. Its twelve pentagonal faces were associated with the zodiac, celestial order, and the division of space and time. The dodecahedron’s symmetry and connection to the golden ratio reflect the mathematical principles underlying the universe's design. Unlike the other Platonic solids linked to the classical elements, the dodecahedron transcended the material realm, representing the heavens and the metaphysical. It embodies the ancient belief in a cosmos governed by harmony, unity, and the perfect interplay of geometry and nature. In my painting, I bring this together with the picture of the Microwave Background Radiation, our first picture of the beginning of time.
